The Mexican president emphasized his willingness to cooperate with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, but expressed his position that he would not take Trump's comments seriously or respond to them one by one."You don't have to pay attention to what Trump says, trying to maintain a good relationship, but you don't have to fall in love," Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum
told a news conference.

said, "Trump is still the president-elect, so we don't officially communicate government-to-government at the moment. When the time comes, we will contact the new U.S. administration to reach various agreements."

President Sheinbaum also stressed on the previous day that he would "designate Mexican cartels as terrorist organizations," saying, "We will cooperate, coordinate, and work together with the United States, but we will exclude interference."

In order not to lose its status as a party to the regional trade agreement, Mexico has come up with a series of policies that seem to keep pace with the next U.S. government, including imposing import clothing tariffs targeting China and cracking down on Chinese knockoffs.
