Police Special Forces launch investigation into 'suspected arrest of National Assembly Speaker'

Police launched an investigation into allegations that martial law forces tried to arrest Chairman Woo Won-sik by being deployed to the National Assembly speaker's official residence shortly after a resolution calling for the lifting of emergency martial law was passed by the National Assembly on the 4th.

The National Police Agency's National Investigation Headquarters Special Investigation Team said today (26th) that it is confirming basic facts about the allegation.

Earlier on the 4th, National Assembly Secretary-General Kim Min-ki released CCTV footage and urged to find out the truth, saying martial law troops believed to be arrested were detected in the area of the National Assembly Speaker's official residence.

Thirteen people, including 11 soldiers and two men in plain clothes, were taken in the video, and acting Defense Minister Kim Sun-ho explained that the troops were deployed to strengthen the guard of the official residence, not martial law forces.
