The motion to appoint Ma Yong-ju as Supreme Court justice candidate passed the plenary session of the National Assembly.

As a result of the anonymous vote in the plenary session of the National Assembly, 193 lawmakers participated in the vote and passed the motion with 186 in favor, five against and two abstentions.

Earlier, the National Assembly's special committee on personnel hearings adopted a report on Ma's confirmation hearings with only opposition lawmakers presenting his "qualified" opinion.

The People's Power did not attend the confirmation hearing, saying that acting President Han Deok-soo could not exercise his right to appoint candidates, and did not participate in the plenary vote.
