A human-sent solar probe has set a new record.

The U.S. space agency, NASA's solar probe, has succeeded in a near-sun observation flight.

Reporter Hwang Bo-sun reports.

[Reporter]
Near midnight on the 26th, the solar probe "Parker Solar Probe" sent a signal to the ground control team.

He informed me that he was alive after completing his mission.

[Joe Westlake/NASA Physicist: Late at night, we got a green light last night at around 11:50 p.m. Eastern time]

The point where the probe reached is on the side of Corona, the atmosphere 6115,507km away from the sun's surface.

It's a close record in human history.

Shortly after completing the mission on Christmas Eve on the 24th, communication with the ground control team was cut off, but the no news eventually became good news.

The Parker probe will send detailed data on January 1st.

[Joe Westlake/ NASA Physicist] The probe has been confirmed to be alive. The rover will send you the data soon. Things to get excited about continue.

Launched in 2018, the Parker probe has been breaking records for close-up flights since its first successful flight through the upper Covid in April 2021.

In September last year and March this year, it reached an altitude of 7.26 million kilometers based on the sun's surface.

The probe is the fastest spacecraft ever built and is designed to withstand heat of 1,370 degrees Celsius.
