China moves to raise civil servants' pay for the first time in a decade

2025.01.05 PM 01:46
China, which has been "tightening the official belt" for a while due to economic slowdown and local government financial difficulties, is expected to raise government salaries for the first time in a decade, Hong Kong's South Morning Post said.

According to reports, public officials and workers in public institutions in China have recently been notified that the basic salary increase of 300 to 500 yuan and 60,000 to 100,000 won in our money will be applied before the Lunar New Year holiday on the 26th.

Doctors and school teachers in public hospitals are also reported to receive benefits like ordinary civil servants.

Recent examples of China's public announcement of pay hikes for government employees were back in 2006 and 2015, which would be the first time in a decade if pay rises this year.
