Season 2 of Netflix's original series "Squid Game" is gaining worldwide popularity, and it has been confirmed that related goods are being sold illegally in China.
Today (7th), Professor Seo Kyung-duk said on his SNS, "We confirmed this fact after searching Chinese online shopping malls through a report by a customer," adding, "It is not possible to use illegal goods as a profit structure due to the lack of illegal viewing." Professor
Seo pointed out, "Related products were not searched in Taobao and Jingdong, which were controversial in Season 1 of 'Squid Game', and were sold in Temu and AliExpress. The biggest problem is that most of the origin is China, and the actor's portrait rights were used without permission."
Even after the first season of "Squid Game" was released in 2021, companies handling fake costumes in large Chinese online shopping malls enjoyed a special treat, which caused controversy.
At the time, foreign media such as Hong Kong's South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported that products inspired by the "Squid Game" are selling like hot cakes in Internet shopping malls around the world, and that "the majority of them are manufactured in China."
Since then, Netflix has launched an operation to wipe out illegal goods through hard-line measures, such as sending a warning message to companies that violate the intellectual property rights of 'Squid Game'.
