2025.01.09 PM 01:08
The gondola stopped running at Muju Deogyusan Resort in Jeollabuk-do, causing passengers to be trapped in the cold.

At around 10:15 a.m. today (9th), the gondola from Deogyusan Resort to Seolcheonbong Peak in Deogyusan Mountain suddenly stopped and fire rescue teams were dispatched to the scene.

Muju Resort said, "We assume that the power was cut off due to electrical factors, and about 45 minutes after the accident, we used emergency power to get passengers trapped in the gondola off for now."

One of the passengers said, "I was trapped in the gondola for nearly an hour on a fierce pendulum of more than 10 degrees below zero," adding, "There were no announcements and adequate measures."

The Deogyusan Resort Gondola is in its 80s, and eight people can ride each, so the maximum capacity for boarding at one time is reported to be more than 600 people.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, Seolcheonbong Peak of Muju Deogyusan Mountain was minus 16.1 degrees Celsius as of 11 a.m. today, with 76.5 centimeters of snow.
