A military court has acquitted Colonel Park Jung-hoon of defamation of his name and boss in the process of handing over the results of the investigation into the death of Chae Sang-byung to the police.

This is the court's first judgment in a year and a half after the death of a corporal while searching for missing people in a flood-stricken area.

I'm connecting with the reporter.

Reporter Cho Yong-sung, please tell us the results of the first trial.

Yes, the Central Military Court in Yongsan, Seoul, acquitted Colonel Park Jung-hoon, who was the head of the Marine Corps investigation, in the first trial today.

Colonel Park was previously indicted on charges of defamation of mutiny and superiors, but the military court refused to accept all of them.

First of all, the military court explained the reason for innocence, saying that the Marine Corps investigation team is obligated to transfer the case of Chae's death to the police without delay, and the Marine Corps commander has no power to order the suspension.

In addition, Colonel Park's press conference and broadcast on the alleged defamation made it difficult to say that the remarks were value-neutral and intentional for defamation.

After the sentence, Colonel Park Jung-hoon thanked the people and the military court for their support.

The trial, which lasted for a year and two months, went through 10 hearings, and key positions related to the case, including former Minister Lee and former commander Kim, attended as witnesses,
The
military prosecution demanded a three-year prison term for Colonel Park in a final trial last year.Attention is focusing on whether Colonel

Park will be acquitted of the charges of mutiny by the first trial military court and will affect the investigation into allegations of external pressure by high-ranking military officials such as former Defense Minister Lee Jong-seop, former Marine Corps Commander Kim Gye-hwan, and the presidential office.

If the military prosecution appeals against the first trial ruling of the military court, the trial will be held at the Seoul High Court, a private court, from the second trial.
