The Seoul Southern District Court is conducting a pre-arrest interrogation of jurist Jeon Sung-bae, who is suspected of violating the Political Fund Act, from 2 p.m. today.

Jeon is accused of taking 100 million won worth of money from a preliminary candidate in exchange for the nomination of the Liberty Korea Party for mayor of Yeongcheon, North Gyeongsang Province, during the 2018 local elections.

Last month, the prosecution arrested Jeon urgently and requested an arrest warrant, but rejected it, saying the date, amount, and method of receiving the money from the court were not clear.

The prosecution said it re-claimed Jeon through a reinforcement investigation by supplementing the reasons for the dismissal, including specifying the amount of illegal political funds he received worth 150 million won.

It also explained that facts related to the reason for the arrest, such as the destruction of evidence and the fear of escape, were additionally confirmed.

The prosecution also booked a preliminary candidate who gave money to Jeon, and investigated Yoon Han-hong, an aide to the Liberty Korea Party's lawmaker's office at the time, who was suspected of connecting the two as a reference.

Jeon is also suspected of intervening in various interests by citing his relationship with the Yoon Suk Yeol president and his wife.

Attention is focusing on whether the prosecution, which confiscated so-called judicial phones and others in the previous search, will secure Jeon's whereabouts this time and expand the investigation to the entire political circle.
