South Korea's individual tax payments remain low among the member states of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) but its tax increase rates appear to be high.

According to OECD figures, South Korea's tax payments per capita amounted to 6.83 million won ($6,314) in 2013, ranking sixth from the bottom in the list of 29 OECD members where tax surveys were available.

However, per-head tax payments increased 25 percent from 2008 to 2013, placing the country fourth among the OECD states.
