Although an average of more than 300 paramedics are assaulted during official duties a year, most of them are only soft, with more than 90% of the perpetrators being punished with fines or less.
According to the data submitted by the Democratic Party of Korea's Wi Sung-gon from the National Fire Agency, a total of 1,500 paramedics were assaulted for five years from 2020 to August this year.
Among them, 80 were sentenced to prison, less than 10%, and 470 were fined, accounting for more than half.
