Let's watch the second keyword video. You're talking about elderly standards, aren't you?

[Reporter]
That's right. Do anchors know how old the elderly are?

[Anchor]
You're 65 years old.

[Reporter]
That's right. He's 65 years old. This has been the same for 43 years since the enactment of the Elderly Welfare Act in 1981.

There was a proposal to raise this standard by 10 years to 75.

Yesterday (21st), Booyoung Group Chairman Lee Jung-geun took office as the chairman of the Korea Senior Citizens' Association and proposed to raise the age of the elderly annually.

To this end, systems such as the retirement age extension and the wage peak system should be followed together, and the government should receive 40% of wages in the first year of the retirement age extension and 20% at the age of 75.

Let's listen to the words of the president of the Korean Senior Citizens Association and the words of the elderly in their 70s.

[Lee Jung-geun / President of the Korea Senior Citizens' Association: We would like to raise the age of the elderly annually. The elderly population is 10 million now, but by 2050 it will be 20 million.... In order to manage the elderly population, the current age of the elderly aged 65 should be raised step by step for one year and raised to 75 under the name of the Korean Senior Citizens' Association so that the number of the elderly can be properly managed at around 75 years old.]

[Son Hyang-ran / Yangpyeong-dong, Seoul: (Do you think you're an old man from the age of 65?) I don't think I'm an old man at all. I'm in my 70s, and I think 75, 77, and 80s will be fine. That's how I live my life. Even if you receive a little less benefits (due to the upper age limit for the elderly), I think it's a benefit if you get younger. I think it's a big favor to raise it to over 75 years old.]

In the midst of this, a survey showed that the number of employed people aged 60 or older ranked first in all age groups, right?

[Reporter]
Yes. About 1 in 4 employed people in Korea.

It turns out that they are aged 60 or older.

Last month, the number of employed people aged 60 or older exceeded 6.74 million, surpassing those in their 50s for the first time to rank first in all age groups.

It is the first time that the number of employed people in their 50s has surpassed that of those in their 50s since 1982 when related statistics were compiled.

Last month, 23.4% of all employed people aged 60 or older also reached an all-time high.

In addition, the number of startups for the elderly is on the rise.

Among start-up companies in July this year, 14% of them were founded by people aged 60 or older, the highest ever as of the same month.

Companies also responded positively to the extension of the retirement age?

[Reporter]
Yes. About 8 out of 10 companies are positive about extending their retirement age, the survey showed.

According to a survey of 461 companies on the career platform People, nearly 80% of all respondents said they were "positive" about extending their retirement age.

The average retirement age that I think is appropriate was 65.7 years old.

More than half of the companies are considering hiring middle-aged employees in their 50s and 60s.

Earlier, the retirement age of public service workers belonging to the Ministry of Public Administration and Security has been extended to a maximum of 65 years old.

As a result, not only the private sector but also the public sector are interested in whether it will signal the spread of the retirement age extension.

However, I will say that social consensus is essential as the higher the standard age for the elderly can lead to a side effect of decreasing youth jobs.
