Philippines to kill at least 87 people and 500,000 migrants as tropical storm 'trami' hits

At least 87 people have been killed and half a million displaced by Tropical Storm Trami, which hit the northwestern Philippines.

AFP reported on Wednesday local time that rescuers were speeding up to rescue isolated residents in areas flooded by tropical storm Trami, making it difficult to access.

Especially in hard-hit areas, residents are stuck on roofs and upper floors of homes waiting for emergency rescue, and reports of rescue requests continue to rise, authorities said.

AFP said the death toll from Trami continued to rise, reaching at least 87, with more than 20 people missing, according to statistics from police and disaster authorities.

Weather officials cautioned that high pressure in the South China Sea could cause Trami to change course and head back to the Philippines next week.
