U.S. President-elect Donald Trump announced the nomination of the U.S. ambassador to Denmark, again insisting on the incorporation of Danish Greenland into the U.S.
In a post on his social media on the 22nd local time, Trump said he was nominating Ken Howery, the former Swedish ambassador, as the Danish ambassador.
He went on to argue that the United States felt an absolute need to own and control Greenland for national security and freedom around the world.
Greenland, Denmark's autonomous territory, also unilaterally expressed its intention to buy it in 2019, the first period of Trump's presidency, sparking a backlash from Denmark.
In response to the backlash, Trump has also been criticized for ignoring the alliance by canceling his planned visit to Denmark.
In the midst of this, there is also criticism for announcing a series of appointments of ambassadors before the inauguration of the president.
Dennis Jett, a professor at Pennsylvania State University in the United States, told the Guardian on the 21st that he had appointed ambassadors at least after taking office, and that he had never seen a president-elect announce such a large number of ambassador nominees.
