Ahead of Japan's House of Representatives elections on the 27th, another act of violence has taken place against the ruling Liberal Democratic Party.

At around 6 a.m. today, a man in his 40s threw five or six objects that appeared to be firebombs at the Liberal Democratic Party headquarters in Tokyo, Japan.

The man was then arrested at the scene after being blocked by an iron fence while trying to rush into the prime minister's residence five minutes away by car.

The suspect is said to be exercising his right to remain silent in a police investigation.

Also, an oil can was found inside the suspect's vehicle.

Hiroshi Moriyama, secretary-general of the Liberal Democratic Party, said, "I feel strong anger at the act, which took place in the middle of elections, the basis of democracy."

Recently, in Japan, there have been a series of incidents targeting key members of the Liberal Democratic Party at every major election.

In July 2022, former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was shot dead during an election campaign in Nara Prefecture ahead of the upper house election.

In April last year, a man in his 20s threw explosives at former Prime Minister Fumio Kishida at a by-election campaign site in Wakayama Prefecture.
