The morning meal service project, which has been piloted by the Chungbuk Office of Education since June, has been well received at the school site.

However, tens of billions of won is needed for full expansion, raising concerns for the Office of Education.

Chungbuk-type breakfast meal project, which is promoted to improve the health and academic achievement of growing students.

Depending on the school situation, nine elementary, middle, and high schools in the province are serving food on a trial basis around 8 a.m. every morning.

Initially, the provincial education office predicted that 20% of all students would apply for convenience meals, but as more students showed interest than expected, the average number of people served from June to October was about 900.

It is 25% of the total number of students in the pilot school.

[Lee Woo-hyung / Vice principal of Cheongju Technical High School, Chungbuk: I was a little worried about how many of our students would participate and whether they would be satisfied. But when I tried it, the students liked it so much....]

However, the Office of Education, which is planning to expand the entire project in 2026 due to higher-than-expected demand, is in a state of deceiving others.

Currently, the price of simple meals per person is set at 4,000 won, and the company has set up its own budget of 730 million won for pilot operations until December, including the labor costs of volunteers to serve food.

The problem is that if the pilot project is completed and expanded to all schools, the required budget will increase significantly.

For example, if only 20% of students, which is the expected number of students at the Office of Education, are applied, more than 20 billion won is needed for simple meals alone.

In addition, the government initially proposed sharing the 5-5 budget with local governments, but the final share ratio was decided by the Office of Education 6 and the local government 4, increasing the burden.

[Park Si-eun / Chungbuk Office of Education School Meal Team Leader: 94% are satisfied with the satisfaction survey. Based on the results of the pilot project, we will analyze the effectiveness of the project and identify problems..]

Chungbuk-style breakfast convenience food, which started a soft landing after twists and turns.

Although the demand has been confirmed, expectations and concerns are mixed nationwide whether the budget for the project can be secured properly amid worsening education finances due to falling tax revenues.
