Six days after China's siege exercise, U.S. and Canadian warships passed the Taiwan Strait. The U.S. Navy Seventh Fleet
says the Ali Burke class guided missile destroyer Higgins sailed through the Taiwan Strait with the Royal Canadian Navy frigate Vancouver, meeting international legal norms.

In response, China's Eastern Bloc announced that it had organized maritime and air force forces to monitor the entire transit operation, saying that the actions of the U.S. and Canada disrupted the regional situation and destroyed peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.

The crossing of the Taiwan Strait comes less than a week after the Chinese military conducted its third siege exercise under the pretext of the "two countries theory" emphasized by President Lei Ching-de in his speech on the anniversary of the country's founding.
