Opposition-led National Assembly plenary session passed the 'Abolition Act on the automatic budget bill'

An amendment to the National Assembly Act, which prevents next year's government budget from being automatically submitted to the plenary session even after the legal deadline for the National Assembly's budget review, has been passed by the opposition party.

The revision of the National Assembly Act was passed at the plenary session with 171 in favor and 101 against out of 272 present.

The provisions of the automatic department of the government's original budget bill were introduced in the so-called National Assembly Advancement Act in 2014, and if the National Assembly fails to complete the review within the budget review deadline, the government's original bill and the revenue incidental bill will be automatically submitted to the plenary session.

However, opposition parties, including the Democratic Party of Korea, have argued that the provision of the automatic ministry should be deleted to strengthen the budget and voting rights of the National Assembly, saying that the provision of the automatic ministry has the side effect of hasty processing due to the imminent screening deadline.

However, as the government and the ruling party have opposed the revision, saying it neutralizes the purpose of introducing the National Assembly Advancement Act and violates the principles of tax legalism, some predict that Yoon Suk Yeol's right to demand re-examination will be exercised.
