Regulations around Gyeongancheon Stream in Yongin, which were designated as waterfront areas and military facility protection zones at the same time and restricted the exercise of property rights for 25 years, have been lifted.

Various developments such as apartment houses and lodging facilities are expected to be possible in the future.

Reporter Choi Myung-shin reports.

A banner was hung on the outer wall of Yongin City Hall to celebrate the lifting of the designation of waterside areas in Pogok-eup and Mohyeon-eup.

As the Ministry of Environment lifted the notification of the designation of waterfront areas, 500 soccer fields, which had been shackled by development for 25 years, were released from the regulation.

Gyeongancheon Stream is a national river that originates from Yongin and flows into Paldang Lake through Gwangju.

The area of Pogok-eup was included for some reason, even though military facility protection areas should be excluded when designating waterfront areas.

Yongin City set up a TF and consistently suggested deregulation, leading to the lifting of the designation.

[Jo Dae / Head of Pogok-eup, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do: There was not much development in Pogok-eup compared to other towns, myeon, and dongs, but it is expected that there will be a lot of development in the future as double regulations are lifted]

With the lifting of regulations, apartment houses, restaurants, and bathhouses can be built in the area.

Residents are raising expectations for development.

[Chae Soo-hyung / Pogok-eup, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do: More infrastructure is expected to come in this area, and I want to run a cafe overlooking Gyeongancheon Stream.]

[Lee Sang-il / Yongin Mayor: Property rights were quite restricted, but the lifting of regulations has allowed citizens to exercise their property rights more freely]

Yongin City plans to come up with various measures to stably manage the water quality of Gyeongancheon Stream along with measures to revitalize the local economy.
