Ukrainian authorities say 2,000 of the North Korean troops sent to the war are joining Russian troops in fighting on the front lines.

Andriy Tzherniak, head of the intelligence bureau (HUR) of Ukraine's Ministry of Defense, said in an interview with a local radio station today (3rd).

Zherniak explained that 2,000 North Korean soldiers are deployed to Russia's Marine Brigade and Airborne Division and are actively engaged in combat, while the remaining 9,000 remain reserves.

The North Korean military is led by three generals, he said, adding that they are training in closed camps with maximum secrecy and the highest level of security.

Earlier, Ukrainian military chief Anatoly Varylevich said more than 10,000 North Korean troops had been deployed to Kursk, Russia, some of whom had engaged Ukrainian forces.
