When President Yoon Suk Yeol declared an emergency martial law on the night of the 3rd, the military moved urgently, entering the National Assembly.
Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun held a meeting of all military commanders and ordered the strengthening of readiness, and commanders above the battalion commander level entered an emergency standby.
Air-to-air forces were also dispatched to conduct surveillance and patrol missions.
Helicopters floated over the National Assembly, and armored vehicles sightings appeared one after another in downtown Seoul.
Army Chief of Staff Park An-soo was appointed as the martial law commander, and he announced a decree (No. 1) of the martial law command, which includes prohibition of political activities and media control.
Since then, martial law forces have entered the compound of the National Assembly and clashed, but 190 lawmakers have passed a resolution calling for the lifting of the emergency martial law, losing the legal effect of martial law.
National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-sik officially announced at 1:15 a.m. that all martial law troops had been withdrawn.
