The judiciary said it was fortunate that the emergency martial law declared by President Yoon Suk Yeol was lifted and said it would work to protect the freedom and rights of the people.
In a notice on martial law, Chun Dae-yup, the chief of the Supreme Court's court administration, said, "We are relieved that martial law has been lifted in accordance with the constitution, albeit later."
He then said, "The judiciary is the last bastion of the constitution to guarantee the basic human rights of the people," and emphasized, "We will do our best to protect the freedom and rights of the people in our original attitude according to the mission given by the constitution and laws."
