In the four-year International Comparative Study on Mathematics and Science Achievement (TIMSS), elementary and middle school students in Korea maintained the top ranks.

The Ministry of Education said in last year's evaluation of the International Educational Achievement Association that Korean fourth graders ranked third in math and second in science among 58 countries, the same as four years ago.

Second-year middle school students were also ranked third in math and fourth in science among 44 countries, the same as in the previous evaluation.

Our 4th graders' interest in mathematics and science has not changed compared to 2019, but their confidence scale scores have increased.

In the case of second-year middle school students, their interest, confidence, and value recognition scale scores in mathematics and science all increased compared to four years ago.

However, the percentage of students using the Internet for math and science subjects was lower than the international average, and 50% of middle school students answered that their science teacher classes were clear, which was lower than the international average (51%).

Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study' is conducted every four years for 4th graders and 2nd graders in elementary school to compare the achievement results and trends of the two subjects internationally.
