During a visit to Israel, U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said a Gaza truce and hostage release deal was likely to be reached soon.
Sullivan told a news conference after meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the 12th local time that a deal may not be reached, but it may be reached on the political will of both sides.
On the observation that Netanyahu is delaying a deal until the inauguration of U.S. President-elect Trump, he said he did not think so, adding that he felt ready to reach a deal with the prime minister.
Sullivan added that the goal is to come up with a position to reach a deal within this month.
In a related development, a Western diplomat said a cease-fire was being worked out, but the number of hostages being released or the duration of the cease-fire would be limited, Reuters reported.
