With the theory of constitutional amendment rising to the surface in politics due to the December 3 emergency martial law incident, the Constitutional Assembly of the Republic of Korea, a group of former lawmakers, will issue a statement calling for a constitutional revision on the 24th.

Constitutional Chairman Chung Dae-chul said in a call with YTN that he plans to make a statement calling for a revision of the imperial presidential system, the "five-year two-term system," before the next presidential election.

He explained that he plans to propose a four-year two-term presidential system and a two-way government system in the direction of constitutional amendment, but that he will leave detailed discussions to the ruling and opposition parties' consultations centered on the chairman of the National Assembly.

Chairman Chung said that the imperial president's authority should now be dispersed to create a true democratic constitutional system, and National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-sik also sympathized with this awareness of the problem.

The Constitutional Council is considering holding a press conference at the National Assembly's communications hall and making a statement.
