French President Emmanuel Macron has come under criticism from opposition parties after visiting the French island of Mayotte in the Indian Ocean, which has been badly damaged by the cyclone "Chido," and saying that "if it wasn't for France, we would be in 10,000 times more trouble."

President Macron, who visited the island of Mayotte on the 19th local time, jeered at the devastating damage and delays in recovery, saying, "Sign up" and would have been in deeper trouble if not for France, and argued with residents that such boos are insulting France.

He also added, "There is no place in the Indian Ocean that receives so much help."

President Macron's remarks were criticized by the opposition as a "colonial idea."

"Emanuel Macron went to Mayotte in an arrogant manner and preached," Green Party MP Sandrine Russo said on France 2 and accused him of "playing Macron's show at a time when we are experiencing the greatest human disaster since World War II."

Sebastian Schnue, deputy leader of the far-right National Union (RN), also pointed out on radio RTL that Macron's remarks are "unlikely to console Mayots who always feel discriminated against."

In his contribution to Riveracion, Nasurdin Idarido, president of the Black Group Council, Macron condemned it as "not a consoling messenger, but an arrogant colonial ruler."

President Macron's remarks are "an insult to home, loved ones, and those who have lost their dignity," he said, expressing regret that "in the eyes of French rulers, Mayotte residents are by no means a complete French citizen, but a sub-citizen who must grovel before the owner who has given them water or charity."

Mayotte Island is part of the Comoros Islands in southeastern Africa, one of France's foreign territories.

A total of 31 people were killed and 2,500 injured in the "Chido" that landed on the 14th, according to the French Ministry of Interior.
