Up to 5.14 million car recalls...Impact of electric field and electrification on defects in popular vehicles

This year, the largest number of cars in Korea have been voluntarily corrected and recalled due to manufacturing defects.

According to the Korea Transportation Safety Authority's Automobile Recall Center, 1,684 vehicles and 5,142,988 vehicles were recalled this year.

This is three times the size of last year, far exceeding the previous high of 3,247,296 units in 2022.

By manufacturer, Hyundai Motor Group accounted for 79.2% of the total with 4.74,684 units combined with Hyundai Motor and Kia, followed by BMW Korea and Tesla Korea.

The number of recalls surged this year because a number of production defects were found, mainly in Hyundai Motor Group's popular vehicles, and Hyundai Motor Group's recall share this year is the highest since 89.5% in 2013.

In addition, it is analyzed that manufacturing defects have increased in the process of electricalization and electrification of automobiles.
