Philip Goldberg, the U.S. ambassador to South Korea, visited the National Assembly and said he was sorry that an unimaginable undemocratic situation had occurred in the 21st century, and that he thought the constitutional process would go well.

Ambassador Goldberg said in a meeting with Lee Jae-myung, chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea, that he would reaffirm the U.S. ironclad commitment to the South Korea-U.S. alliance that has guaranteed peace and prosperity.

He also met with acting and floor leader Kwon Sung-dong of the People's Power Party, adding that he will continue to strengthen trade and investment that benefit cooperation between the two countries.

Asked by reporters how he evaluates the situation in Korea after the president's impeachment, Ambassador Goldberg replied that he has very clearly expressed support for the Korean people and will continue to do so.
