Pop star Mariah Carey is estimated to make billions of won every year with just one song, "All I Want For Christmas Is You," which has become synonymous with songs she listens to during the Christmas season, according to an analysis.
According to CNBC's report citing Billboard magazine estimates, Carrie was estimated to have earned $2.7 million to $3.3 million in 2022 with this song alone, and about 3.94 billion to 4.82 billion won in our money.
These figures are mainly income from song downloads and streaming, excluding income related to broadcasting of more profitable TV specials.
However, CNBC explained that it is difficult to determine the exact income because Carrie herself and the record label have never disclosed the contents of the copyright contract for the song.
CNBC said Carrie's actual income in recent years will be greater as the song has not cooled in popularity for 30 years since its release in 1994, but rather "reverse the charts" and is becoming more popular.
Global music streaming company Spotify recently announced that the song has exceeded 2 billion streams, the first Christmas-related song to reach.
The song has been the number one streaming on Spotify every Christmas since 2016.
