Ministry of Foreign Affairs Explains 'Acting System' to Embassy in Seoul, U.S., China and Japan

Immediately after the impeachment of Prime Minister Han Deok-soo, the government shared the situation with embassies in major countries such as the United States, China, and Japan, and explained the acting presidential system of Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Choi Sang-mok.

Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yeol spoke with U.S. Ambassador to South Korea Philip Goldberg, explained the launch of the acting presidential system of Deputy Prime Minister Choi Sang-mok following the National Assembly's approval of the impeachment of Acting President Han Deok-soo, and discussed cooperation between the two countries.

Ambassador Goldberg stressed in a call with Minister Cho that the U.S. remains steadfast in its support for the strong South Korea-U.S. alliance and said that we should maintain close communication in the future.

First Vice Foreign Minister Kim Hong-kyun and Vice Foreign Minister Chung Byung-won spoke to Japanese Ambassador to Korea Koichi Mizushima and Chinese Ambassador to Korea Fang Kun, respectively, and agreed to cooperate closely to ensure that the relationship between the two countries continues to develop under the acting authority of Choi Sang-mok.
