A broadcast writer who was put on trial for extorting a large amount of money from a singer from a famous group will be judged by the appeals court again.
The Supreme Court reversed the court case, which sentenced A, a broadcast writer accused of fraud, to nine years in prison and a fine of 2.6 billion won, and sent the case back to the Seoul High Court.
Earlier, most of the first and second trials admitted A's charges, but the Supreme Court decided to re-judge the extent of the damage, saying that some of the damages had already been transferred to other accounts.
A was indicted in 2019 on charges of pocketing 2.6 billion won for helping the victim singer, a longtime acquaintance, be cleared of charges of forced harassment.
However, Mr. A had no connection to the prosecutor, and the victim singer sued him after realizing that he had been deceived.
