The police special investigation team plans to call the presidential chief of staff Chung Jin-seok as a defendant to investigate the declaration of emergency martial law the day after tomorrow (30th).

The police plan to investigate whether Chief of Staff Chung attended the Cabinet meeting just before the declaration of the emergency martial law.

Earlier, Chief of Staff Chung submitted a statement to the plenary session of the National Assembly Steering Committee stating that he was notified of his attendance as a defendant by the investigative agency on December 30 and that he could not attend the pending questions on the same day.

In addition, Shin Won-sik, head of the National Security Office, also submitted a statement of reason for his absence, saying he was notified of his attendance as a reference by the investigative agency on the same day.

On the 17th, the Democratic Party of Korea filed a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Office of high-ranking government officials on charges of assisting and condoning the civil war even though Chief of Staff Chung and others are the highest-ranking aides in the presidential office.
