Acting President and Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Choi Sang-mok visited the Central Disaster and Safety Situation Room at the Seoul Government Complex at around 9:50 a.m. shortly after hearing the news of the accident.
Acting President Choi instructed the acting Minister of Public Administration and Security, the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the National Fire Agency Commissioner, and the National Police Agency Commissioner to mobilize all available equipment and personnel to save lives.
He also reiterated that special care should be taken to prevent safety accidents such as firefighters from occurring during the rescue process.
Acting Choi is rushing to the scene of the accident at Muan Airport in Jeollanam-do immediately after receiving a briefing on the accident at the situation room.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport set up the Central Accident Response Headquarters at the Sejong Government Complex to respond to the aircraft crash at Muan International Airport in Jeollanam-do.
In addition, seven investigators from the Aviation Railroad Accident Committee, the chief of the aviation technology division, and supervisors were dispatched to the site.
Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Park Sang-woo and Deputy Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Baek Won-guk also reportedly arrived at the accident management headquarters.
The Korea Airports Corporation is also setting up an accident response headquarters in accordance with the accident manual, and a headquarters will be formed at Muan Airport, and an integrated headquarters will be set up to oversee it at the headquarters level.
Currently, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has closed Muan Airport and is controlling the area around the site.
