Soon after landing, the Jeju Air passenger plane was engulfed in a huge fire.
The large blaze was contained about 40 minutes after the accident, but the explosion and flames struggled to follow up.

At the scene of the accident, a black column of fire rose as if a bomb had exploded.
The fire soared enough to be mistaken for a gas station fire, and the smell was burning enough to be felt even in the car in the distance.
[Accident Witness; Gas Station would have controlled it. Wow, there's a lot of burning. It smells like rubber. I'm inside the airport. Is it a plane?]
The plane, which sped quickly with its tail in touch, hit the wall at the end of the runway and burst into flames at the same time as it crashed.Immediately after the
accident, 32 fire engines were dispatched to extinguish the fire, but it was not enough.
[Accident Witness: Oh, there are so many fire engines? Are you turning off the lights? I don't know if the fire is all under control.]
The fire department put out the big fire in about 40 minutes, but smoke rose throughout the rescue operation and the heat did not cool down.
The aircraft was charred black with only its tail.
[Lee Junghyun / Muan Fire Chief: You know the tail part? [Only that part is a bit shapeless, and the rest of it is hard to recognize]
It seems that the damage to life has increased uncontrollably due to the impact of the collision, explosion, and flame.
