U.S. President Joe Biden has urged us not to forget the threat posed to American democracy four years ago.
President Biden said in a Washington Post (WP) article on the 5th local time, "The storming riot at that time should be remembered as the day when our democracy was tested and eventually won."
"The mob attacked the Capitol, threatened the lives of civil servants, and attacked brave police officers," Mr. Biden recalled.
"We should be proud that our democracy has weathered these attacks, and we should be glad that we will not see these shameful attacks this year," he wrote.
President Biden did not directly name Trump, but he criticized Trump's supporters for moving to erase or reduce the situation at the time.
January 6, 2021, was exactly four years after Biden broke into Congress.
The New York Times strongly criticized President-elect Trump for attempting to turn the January 6 parliamentary riot into a "love day."
The New York Times recounted the full story and situation of the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot, pointing out that Trump's side has spread conspiracy theories and woven martyrdom stories over the past four years for political gain.
President-elect Trump has been hinting at a pardon for those involved, describing the January 6 incident as a day of love during the presidential campaign.
According to U.S. media, 1,572 people have been charged so far in the January 6 Capitol riot, and more than 1,200 people have been convicted, including 645 who were sentenced to prison.
Trump, who is scheduled to take office on the 20th, has vowed to pardon participants in the Capitol riot as soon as he takes office, and victims, including the Democratic Party and the police at the time, are strongly protesting.
