A large-scale power plant constructed by a South Korean consortium in Mexico has commenced operation.

The Korea Electric Power Corp. (KEPCO) said that a ceremony was held to celebrate the launch of the 433-megawatt Norte II combined cycle power plant near the city of Chihuahua in northern Mexico on Tuesday.

KEPCO, along with Samsung C&T Corp., won the 420 million-dollar contract in 2010 from Mexico's state-run electricity company.

Under the deal, the Korean consortium is allowed to operate the plant for the next 25 years.
