Candidates for the creation of a memorial hall have been proposed to inherit the spirit of the democratization movement in Incheon.
In a related survey report, the Incheon Institute, a think tank in Incheon, proposed a total of nine sites, including eight existing facilities and new sites.
There are eight candidates using existing facilities, including Wolmi Cultural Center, Incheon Urban Industrial Mission, former civic center shelter, Incheon Luxury Hall, Subong Cultural Center, Incheon Museum Park, Incheon University Jemulpo Campus Seongri Hall, and Incheon Northern Workers' Comprehensive Welfare Center.
The area of Freedom Park was suggested as a candidate site for the new construction.
The Incheon Institute explained that the selection was based on the historical significance of these places, their connection to local cultural resources, accessibility, and the possibility of securing candidate sites.
In August last year, the National Assembly passed an amendment to the "Democratic Movement Commemoration Society Act," which stipulates the May 3 Democratic Uprising in Incheon as a democratization movement, laying the legal foundation for commemorating the democratization movement in Incheon.
