The National Nakdonggang Institute of Biological Resources under the Ministry of Environment said it has confirmed the effectiveness of lowering blood sugar by increasing the glucose absorption ability of cells in the extract of yellow flower buds, a freshwater plant.
In muscle cell experiments, we explained that glucose absorption efficacy was increased by yellow flower vesicle extract, and it was observed that glucose absorption capacity was increased by 111.4% especially at a concentration of 25 μg/ml.
The researchers emphasized that this glucose absorption capacity is similar to that of commercially available diabetes treatments.
The Nakdonggang River Biological Resources Center said it has applied for a patent for a composition for improving diabetes using yellow flower blister extract, given that improving cells' ability to absorb glucose is an indicator of reducing glucose absorption, one of the main causes of diabetes.
The yellow-flowered iris is a vascular plant belonging to the irises family and grows native to wetlands in East Asia, including Korea.
