The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs announced that the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Dokdo, which repelled Japan's unauthorized invasion of Dokdo on November 21, 1954, will be held tomorrow (21st) at the Daejeon National Cemetery.
The ceremony will be held in the presence of more than 400 people, including Minister of Veterans Affairs Kang Jeong-ae, members of the commemorative business association, students, and citizens.
The Battle of Dokdo was won by 33 Dokdo's Guards against Japan, which invaded Dokdo without permission, and the members defeated the Japanese armed patrol ships Hekura and Oki with M1 rifles and unmeasured mortars.
The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs explained that the victory of Dokdo's Guards in the battle served as an opportunity for Japan to never illegally invade Dokdo again.
Minister Kang Jeong-ae said, "I hope it will be a meaningful place to cherish the fighting spirit, dedication, and patriotism of 33 heroes who fought the Japanese invasion 70 years ago."
