Regarding the deep-sea oil and gas field development project in Yeongilman Bay, Pohang, Gyeongsangbuk-do, the government has confirmed the so-called Great Whale structure as the first drilling location and has decided to start drilling in earnest.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held a "Strategic Meeting on the Development of the East Sea Deep Sea Gas Field" presided over by Minister Ahn Deok-geun today and agreed to finally approve the "Exploration and Planting Plan for the 8th and 6-1 mine" in the East Sea.
As a result, the drilling ship will enter Busan Port in the middle of next month to begin preparation procedures such as shipping and distributing equipment, and officially announce the results of the first drilling during the first half of next year.
Minister Ahn said he expects the first drilling to be a success and contribute greatly to securing resource security, adding that he will also pursue follow-up exploration based on the experience and information gained from it.
