2024.12.04 AM 04:04
The U.S. government has expressed its hope for compliance with the National Assembly's approval of a resolution calling for the lifting of martial law after President Yoon Suk Yeol's declaration of emergency martial law.

Vedant Patel, a deputy State Department spokesman, told a briefing that while he is not an expert on South Korean law, it is our hope and expectation that certain countries' laws and rules should be observed in those countries.

When asked if the vote on the resolution to lift martial law by the Korean National Assembly was included in it, he said it was the same case, but he said he would not say it before the Korean procedure.

Patel said he was watching the recent situation in South Korea with serious concerns, adding, "The U.S. and Seoul are seeking communication with the South Korean counterpart at all levels."

Secretary of State Tony Blinken was also briefed and added that he was closely monitoring the situation there.
