Police launch investigation into 'Hongcheon Army Private Army Death Accident'

Police have launched an investigation into an accident last month in which an Army private died while training in the Hongcheon mountainous area of Gangwon-do.

The Gangwon National Police Agency said it recently received a request from the military authorities to investigate one officer and two non-commissioned officers for professional negligence.

Private A, a communication soldier belonging to an army unit, fell while moving communication equipment from Amisan, Hongcheon-gun, Gangwon-do, on the 25th of last month, and the commanders of the unit are suspected of causing the death of Private A, who was seriously injured.

The bereaved families, who demanded punishment of those involved and the truth of the accident, argued that the non-commissioned officer's luggage was being shared by private A and other soldiers at the time of training, and that the actual report was made an hour after private A collapsed.
