North Korea criticizes Biden for allowing 'Ukra long-range weapons'...Mimicking Trump?

North Korea has claimed that the U.S. has allowed Ukraine to strike mainland Russia with long-range missiles, raising tensions.

Kim Sung, North Korea's ambassador to the United Nations, protested the U.S. criticism of North Korea's military support to Russia at a U.N. Security Council meeting on the 18th local time and said that U.S. military support to Ukraine is the cause of "destruction of peace and stability in the region."

"Such support is raising concerns about the Ukraine crisis to a more dangerous level and a new world war," he said.

It is an attempt to shift the blame for the escalation to the Biden administration, a claim similar to that of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump.

In a time interview released on the 12th, Trump criticized it as a "major escalation and foolish decision," and when asked at a press conference on the 16th whether he would reverse the Biden administration's decision, he said, "It could be. I think it's a very stupid thing to do."

The Biden administration has not allowed U.S.-provided missiles to attack mainland Russia for fear of escalation, but has changed its stance since the North Korean military sent troops to Russia.

At the Security Council meeting, the United States, South Korea and major Western countries condemned North Korea-Russia military cooperation and urged all UN member states to strictly implement sanctions against North Korea to prevent nuclear proliferation.

Linda Thomas-Greenfield, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, warned, "The more Russia relies on North Korea's support, the more North Korea will gain in return benefits, deepening the threat to peace and security not only in Europe but around the world."

"Unnervingly, we evaluate that Russia may be close to reversing its decades-old commitment to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula and tolerating North Korea's nuclear weapons program," he criticized.

"If Russia abandons its long-standing position of denuclearization of North Korea, it will weaken the foundation of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) system itself," Hwang Joon-guk, ambassador to the United Nations, warned. "That outcome will not help anyone and will be contrary to the interests of China, and eventually nuclear weapons, including Russia."

"North Korea has a history of provocations to draw attention, grow the board, and set the stage for direct negotiations with the new administration," he said. "This time, it could be another ICBM or military satellite launch, or even a seventh nuclear test."
