Former President Ford, who became a close friend of Carter's presidential rival, read the eulogy he left in his life instead.

On arrival at the funeral home, Trump shook hands awkwardly with former Vice President Pence,

However, he was seen talking with former President Obama several times sitting next to him.

U.S. media have noted that Michelle Obama, who almost sat next to Trump, missed the funeral.

Carter's body will return to his hometown of Plains, Georgia, where he will be buried in a family cemetery.

The flag to honor former President Carter will take a month in accordance with the custom, and the American flag will also be raised at half-staff on the 20th, when Trump's inauguration will be held.
