Song Young-gil, the leader of the Pine Tree Party, who is accused of receiving illegal political funds through an outside sponsorship organization, was sentenced to two years in prison in the first trial and arrested in court.

The Seoul Central District Court sentenced CEO Song to two years in prison today (8th) on charges of receiving illegal political funds.

The court found all charges related to the money bag not guilty because it did not recognize the evidence capability of the recorded mobile phone files of former Democratic Party Secretary-General Lee Jung-geun, which led to the investigation of the money bag.

However, he was found guilty of receiving illegal political funds in the name of donations through the 'Research Institute for Peace and Living', an outside organization that supports and assists political activities.

The court criticized CEO Song for avoiding the rules of the Political Fund Act by using non-profit corporations and others and showing no remorse.

Earlier, representative Song was put on trial for spraying envelopes of money containing 60 million won to lawmakers and others in the party to be elected as party leader at the 2021 Democratic National Convention.

In addition, he is accused of receiving 760 million won in illegal political funds through the Peace and Living Problem Research Institute, an outside sponsorship organization, and 40 million won of them was accepted as bribes.
