"Mosi" by Korean-American Jang Hye-young of the United Arab Emirates was selected as the grand prize for the "2024 Overseas Koreans Literature Award".

On the 26th, the Overseas Koreans' Office announced 13 winners of the Overseas Koreans' Literature Award, which has become a gateway to writers of overseas Koreans' literature.

Korean American Cho Seong-guk was selected for the short story category, and New Zealand Korean writer Lee Myung-ran was selected for the essay and essay category.

Winners will be awarded 30 million won in prize money and awards, and the ceremony will be held online in December.

In this year's literary award contest, 504 people from 53 countries around the world applied for 1,304 works.

The judges expressed their feelings that the screening was very meaningful because overseas Koreans from various backgrounds and experiences submitted high-quality works.

In particular, despite the reduced support sector and prize money this year, the number of works received increased by 84% from last year, confirming the interest and willingness of compatriots to create Korean literature, said an official from the Overseas Korean Office.

Lee Sang-deok, head of the Overseas Koreans Agency, emphasized that the 26-year-old Overseas Koreans Literature Award is an opportunity to confirm the expansion of the base of overseas Koreans' literature.

In fact, the Overseas Korean Literature Award produced a number of writers, including Park Mi-hail, a Korean writer who won the Kadyev Literary Award and the Kuprin Literary Award.
