In Bangladesh, lightning strikes killed about 300 people in eight months.
About 300 people have been killed by lightning in Bangladesh over the past eight months this year.

The Forum for Safety Society and Thunderstorm Awareness, a local group that has been monitoring lightning damage since 2019, said 242 men and 55 women were killed by lightning from February to September.

More than half of the dead were farmers who worked in the fields, and in Bangladesh, deaths from lightning were concentrated during the May-June period, when they moved from the dry season to the rainy season.

Xinhua News Agency said the death toll from lightning in Bangladesh has soared since several years ago, and experts say it is a result of climate change's direct impact.

The forum urged ordinary people, including farmers, to train them to raise awareness by publishing thunderclap explanations in textbooks to reduce casualties caused by lightning.
