The greatest celebration of Korean literature, novelist Han Kang has been selected as the winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature, right?

[Reporter]
That's right.

Korean novelist Han Kang has been selected as the winner of the 2024 Nobel Prize in Literature.

Sweden's Nobel Committee said Han Kang's work was selected as "an intense poetic prose that presents historical trauma and reveals the fragility of human life."

This is the first time a Korean writer has won the Nobel Prize in Literature.

It is the second time for a Korean to win a Nobel Prize after the late former President Kim Dae Jung, who won the Peace Prize in 2000.

Please introduce what kind of writer Han Kang is.

[Reporter]
Novelist Han Kang was born in 1970 in Gwangju.

After graduating from Yonsei University's Department of Korean Language and Literature, I took my first path as a publisher as a literary artist.

In 1993, he first appeared as a poet, not a novelist, while publishing four poems, including "Winter in Seoul," in literature and social studies.

The following year, in 1994, when a work called "Red Anchor" was elected to Seoul New Year Literature, he began his career as a novelist in earnest.

Then, in 1995, he quit his job because he was releasing his first novel collection, Love of Yeosu, and began his career as a full-time writer.

Since then, he has consistently published works since his debut. In 2007, he was also appointed as a professor of literary creation at Seoul National University of Arts.

Since then, the novelist Han Kang has been known since he published a novel called Mongo Banjeom.

This is because all seven judges in 2005 were selected as winners of the Mongo Banjeom Literary Award by a unanimous ruling.

In the history of the Lee Sang Literary Award, novelist Han Kang's Mongo Spot was the first time a young writer born in the 1970s would receive an award.

At the time, the judges, unlike other young writers born in the 70s, are serious and have a deep sense of the world in their sentences. Using these expressions, I selected Mongojeok as the winner of the Ideal Literature Award.

This was when novelist Han Kang began to draw attention as one of the standard bearers of the next generation of Korean literature.

Regarding novelist Han Kang's Mongojeok, a literary critic at the time said that Han's Mongojeok for this work may be awkward with strange material, unusual character setting, and complex story development, but all these difficulties were solved with high-level skills and outstanding works.

So I praised it for showing another fun of reading novels.

At the same time, novelist Han Kang began to gain international fame in May 2016.

As a vegetarian became the winner of the Booker Prize, novelist Han Kang has since attracted attention as a writer of international literature.

With novelist Han Kang again selected as the winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, Korean literature is expected to become the center of Korean literature in the world literature world, where British and American literature was the mainstream.
