Fourteen active lawmakers who were elected in the parliamentary election held in April were put on trial on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act.

The Supreme Court even sent an official letter to complete the election trial within a year, but the number of seats in the ruling and opposition parties could fluctuate depending on the outcome of the trial.

The prosecution handed over 14 active lawmakers to trial before the statute of limitations for election offenders in the 22nd general election ended.

In addition, the Democratic Party of Korea is accused of falsely explaining that it has never deceived the Saemaeul Treasury in connection with the allegations of expedient loans with Rep. Yang Moon-seok,
Ten people, including Ahn Do-gul and Jung Joon-ho, who are suspected of running an illegal public relations room for
have been indicted.

In the People's Power, Supreme Council member Jang Dong-hyuk, who is suspected of reporting a reduction in property,
Four people, including Representative Jo Ji-yeon, who went around the
city hall office and greeted public officials, will be tried.

Except for four people who are continuously investigated due to the suspension of the statute of limitations due to the indictment of accomplices, the investigation of active lawmakers has been completed, drawing attention to the results of the court sentence.

As the current Public Official Election Act stipulates that the first trial of the election must be completed within six months and the second and third trials must be completed within three months,

In principle, the Supreme Court sentence should be confirmed within next year.

However, criticism has been steadily raised that related regulations have become ineffective, with the first sentence of Democratic Party Chairman Lee Jae-myung's "Public Office Election Act Trial" taking two years and two months.

Conscious of the controversy, the Supreme Court recently sent an official letter to courts at all levels to comply with the regulations and report on the progress of the case.

[Cheon Dae-yeop / Minister of Court Administration (last 7th): We are deeply aware that the judiciary is causing a lot of concern to the people due to the delay in the trial, and we will do our best to correct it.]

Under the Public Official Election Act, lawmakers will lose their seats immediately if they are fined more than 1 million won.

Amid a fierce legislative war between the ruling and opposition parties over the re-vote of various independent counsel laws, a significant backlash is expected in politics following the judiciary's judgment on the election trial.
