The U.S. State Department says it is very concerned that Russia has begun the ratification process of the North Korea-Russia treaty signed with North Korea.

Asked about Russia's move to ratify the North-Russia treaty, State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said at a briefing that he had great concerns about growing security cooperation between Russia and North Korea.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre also said she was clearly concerned when asked for comment on the recent escalation of tensions on the Korean Peninsula and would work closely with her ally South Korea.

He added that he will continue to urge North Korea to stop any action that could de-escalate tensions and increase the risk of armed conflict.

In response to reports of North Korea sending troops for Russia, he said, "We have always expressed concern when asked about other countries supporting Russia."
